Published

On Monday, June 1, 2026, at approximately 7:20 a.m., officers learned that an oil tank truck had been stolen from the area of Southeast 9th Avenue and Southeast Ankeny Street. Using a tracking device installed in the vehicle, officers located the truck in the area of Southeast 62nd Avenue and Southeast Tolman Street, but the driver fled. During efforts to safely stop the vehicle, the suspect rammed multiple Portland Police Bureau (PPB) vehicles and civilian vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Officers eventually boxed in the truck in the area of Northeast 31st Avenue and Northeast Emerson Street. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers quickly pursued and took the suspect into custody approximately one block away. The suspect, Tyler J. Turner, 34, was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) and lodged on numerous charges.

"This incident highlights the danger that stolen vehicles can pose to our community," PPB Chief Bob Day said. "I'm grateful that no community members or officers were seriously injured and proud of the coordination and professionalism demonstrated by our officers as they worked to safely bring this dangerous situation to an end."

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone whose vehicle was struck by the suspect is urged to Submit a Tip.
