The pedestrian struck and killed in the crash on February 2 has been identified as 45-year-old Michael Scott American Horse. His family has been notified of his death.
Investigators did not detect any sign of impairment or criminal conduct by the involved driver.
Nothing further will be released at this time.

Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck On Freeway
On Monday, February 2, 2026, at 4:09 a.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to reports of a pedestrian struck on northbound I-5 at the exit to eastbound I-84, just north of the Southeast Water Avenue exit. Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the person to an area hospital, where they later died. The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team is responding to investigate. During the investigation, eastbound I-84 will be closed from northbound I-5. I-84 eastbound is still accessible from southbound I-5.
