At approximately 10:45 p.m., Portland Police Bureau tactical teams successfully apprehended a burglary suspect who was barricaded inside a residence. The individual's identity and charge(s) will be released when appropriate.
The shelter in place request will be lifted and streets re-opened shortly. PPB appreciates the patience of the community during this event.

PPB Tactical Teams Responding to Incident in Southwest Portland
Portland Police Bureau Tactical Teams are responding to an incident in Southwest Portland.
On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at approximately 5:05 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to reports of a burglary in the 600 block of Southwest Sherman Street. When they arrived, officers determined a suspect was barricaded inside a residence. Over the course of the next two hours, the suspect refused to comply with the officers' commands numerous times. At approximately 7:30 p.m., PPB's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded to the scene to assist.
Streets in the area are cordoned off as PPB personnel work to bring this incident to a safe conclusion. People who live and work in the area are urged to shelter in place.
A PIO is responding to the scene and will provide additional information when appropriate.
