The individual shot and killed in Southeast Portland has been identified.

The individual pronounced deceased in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood on January 26, 2026, has been identified as Kenneth Smith III, 17, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death, and they are requesting privacy at this time.
The Medical Examiner determined Smith died of homicide by gunshot wound.

One Deceased After a Shooting in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood
On Monday, January 26th, 2026, at 2:32 a.m., AMR responded to a medical call near Southeast 134th Avenue and Southeast Harold Street of someone who was not breathing. Upon AMR's arrival, they found a person with gunshot wounds. AMR requested police assistance and Officers assigned to East Precinct responded. Despite lifesaving efforts by AMR, the person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives from the Portland Police Homicide Unit are responding to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, traffic in the surrounding area will be impacted.
