A suspect, who is already in custody on other crimes, has been indicted for the September 2025 murder of Shiloh Thanos-Young in the Northwest Portland.

Following the September 2025 homicide, Detectives identified a suspect, Damaree A. Baxter, 20, of Portland. Baxter is currently in Multnomah County Inverness Jail after being booked on April 10, 2026 for Robbery and other crimes unrelated to the homicide.
The Multnomah County District Attorney's office presented the murder case to a Grand Jury, and this week indicted Baxter for Murder in the First Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The victim's family has been notified of the indictment.

The man killed in the shooting in Northwest Portland on September 23, 2025, has been identified as Shiloh Thanos-Young, 22, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but they did release a photo for public release.
The Medical Examiner determined the victim died of homicide by gunshot wound.
No arrests have been made.

Man Deceased After Shooting in Northwest Portland
A Man has been shot and killed in Northwest Portland.
On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 8:36 p.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to the 2900 block of Northwest Nicolai Street on reports of a shooting with a victim. When officers arrived at the location, they found a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by a community member and paramedics, the man died at the scene.
Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives have responded to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please send an email to Homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov or call 503-823-0479. Please reference case number 25-262941.
During the investigation, Northwest Nicolai Street will be closed between Northwest 29th Avenue and Northwest 31st Avenue.
The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
