Suspect Facing Attempted Murder Charges Related to June Downtown Portland Shooting

Press Release
A suspect in a downtown Portland shooting in June has been arrested in Washington County and charged with attempted murder and other crimes.
Published

On Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 4:46 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a shooting at Northwest 6th Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street in the Old Town Neighborhood. They recovered evidence of a shooting, and later Officers interviewed a victim who reported being shot at, but was fortunately uninjured.

The Portland Police Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) took the investigation, sought out and catalogued evidence and witness statements, and identified a suspect, Marquez Goldsby II, 21, of Aloha, Oregon. On Friday, August 8, 2025 at about 3:30 p.m., ECST learned that Goldsby was at home at an apartment in the 18600 block of Southwest Mapleoak Lane in Aloha.

Due to the seriousness of the charges and the likely presence of guns, ECST requested assistance of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), which activated its Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT). Goldsby was arrested. ECST detectives and officers with the PPB Focused Intervention Team (FIT) served a search warrant in his apartment, finding and seizing a handgun. The gun is not believed to the one used in the June 29th shooting, and detectives are still seeking that weapon.

Goldsby was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a firearm, Attempted Assault in the First Degree with a firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

PPB extends our thanks to WCSO for its assistance with this case.

The Bureau’s Focused Intervention Team (FIT) and Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) work in partnership with the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) on a focused deterrence strategy to reduce gun violence called Portland Ceasefire. This citywide strategy centers on collaboration among Portland’s Community Safety Division and Office of Violence Prevention, City leaders, the Portland Police Bureau, and community groups.

The Focused Intervention Team (FIT) is composed of a Lieutenant, two Sergeants and 12 Officers who were selected to be a part of this specialty unit tasked with helping address gun violence in the city. In between emergency calls, FIT builds relationships with community members and proactively deters violence consistent with their mandate. FIT is overseen by a group of community volunteers known as the Focused Intervention Team Community Oversight Group, or FITCOG. The FITCOG commenced in June 2021 in response to the gun violence crisis in Portland to work with the Focused Intervention Team (FIT) and assist with recommendations to reduce gun violence through prevention, intervention, and response. For more information, see their website. FIT also collaborates with ECST, a team of Sergeants, Detectives, and Officers which focuses on investigating shootings.

FIT and ECST consider all gunfire aimed at Portland community members to be attempted murder cases.
