Update: Driver Who Crashed into Columbia River Identified

The driver killed in the single vehicle crash on Saturday, August 2, 2025, is identified as Guillermo Soto Briceno, 43, of Portland. His body was recovered from the Columbia River following the crash and identified by the Medical Examiner. His family has been notified of his death.

Major Crash Team Investigation Into Vehicle Crashed into Columbia River 

On Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 8:01 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to North Precinct responded to a call of a crash at Northeast Marine Drive and Northeast 122^nd Avenue. When they arrived they found the guardrail was damaged and a vehicle was on its side in a shallow area of the Columbia River. Portland Fire & Rescue, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) River Patrol, and the United States Coast Guard responded and found no one inside the vehicle. They began a search for the driver, but no one has been located.

Due to the possibility that the driver is deceased, the MCT responded to investigate the crash. If anyone has information about this crash and has not spoken to police, please e-mail crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov attn: Traffic Investigations Unit and reference case number 25-207638. The vehicle was towed out of the water.
