A bait bike crime reduction mission resulted in numerous arrests and a drug seizure.
On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the Portland Police Bureau’s Central Precinct Neighborhood Response Team, in collaboration with the precinct’s Bike Squads and Entertainment Detail, conducted a bait bike crime reduction mission in the Downtown core, Old Town, South Park blocks, Couch Park, and Goose Hollow. The mission resulted in three arrests: two for outstanding warrants and one for Theft in the First Degree. In addition, more than 14 grams of cocaine were seized and two vehicles towed.
During the mission, officers assisted a security company with a theft in progress that involved a known chronic shoplifter. Officers also helped Rapid Response workers who encountered resistance during clean-up of a posted encampment.
The bait bike crime reduction mission was in direct response to a bike theft that happened in broad daylight earlier this summer. On Thursday, July 10, 2025, in the 300 block of Southwest 10th Avenue, while two people acted as lookouts, an individual used a power grinder to cut a lock and steal an e-bike. The bike was equipped with an AirTag and it tracked to North Portland. Unfortunately, officers did not locate the bike or the suspects (pictured below). Anyone who recognizes the individuals is asked to contact crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 25-183852.
Based on the success of this bike bait crime reduction mission, future missions will be planned as part of PPB’s commitment to enhancing safety and livability across Portland.
