On July 3, 2025, just after midnight, Portland Police Officers assigned to North Precinct were patrolling in the area of Cathedral Park underneath the St. Johns Bridge. They saw an aerial firework go off and began looking for the person who lit it. They found a 20-year-old male violator with additional fireworks in possession on a floating dock just beneath the bridge.

The officers seized the fireworks and served the violator with a citation.

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau will be looking for fireworks violators as they patrol the city and respond to other calls. Where appropriate, they will issue tickets and seize fireworks.

The City of Portland is reminding residents that all fireworks usage has been banned in the City of Portland. It is unlawful to sell, keep or offer for sale, expose for sale, possess, use, explode or have exploded any fireworks, aerial luminary devices or pyrotechnics within the City of Portland.

Please do not call 911 to report fireworks use! Our 911 system is only for reporting active fires and serious medical problems. Your cooperation with this will save lives!

Our partners at the Bureau of Emergency Communication (Portland 911) and Portland Fire & Rescue recently prepared a video on the topic.

A reminder, Portland Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal has issued a burn ban for the City of Portland.
