On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, shortly before 7 p.m., Central Bike Squad Officers responded to a report of theft that had just occurred at a retail store located in Pioneer Place Mall.
Central Bike Squad and Neighborhood Response Team Officers regularly keep in contact with retail business leaders in an attempt to intervene in theft incidents in real time, as they occur. An officer was informed by a store employee that a suspect had just left with a large amount of merchandise and was likely a known individual who police had been trying to apprehend for some time. Officers were aware the suspect typically fled from a known vehicle, usually parked a close distance from the target location.
Upon learning of the theft, officers broadcast the information, including the description of the vehicle usually used in these thefts. Officers reported seeing it heading toward the Broadway Bridge at a high rate of speed. Central Bike Officers, who were in staged in a vehicle, were able to stop the car on the east side of the bridge on Northeast Broadway. Officers arrested Jeffrey Sims, 54, and he was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center Theft in the First Degree, Driving While Suspended and multiple warrants from Clackamas and Marion Counties.
Approximately $2,603 of Nike merchandise was recovered from the suspect. This investigation is ongoing.
