The victim in a fatal stabbing incident in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood has been identified.

The individual killed in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood on July 13, 2025, has been identified as Juan Carlos Vega-Matute, 44, of Portland.  

The Medical Examiner determined Vega-Matute died of homicide by stab wounds.

UPDATE: Suspect in Fatal Stabbing Identified

The suspect in a fatal stabbing on July 13, 2025, has been identified as Juan Jose Olguin, 28, of Portland. He was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) and lodged on the following charges: Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

On Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 3:19 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a report of a stabbing inside a home in the 11400 block of Southeast Boise Street. When they arrived they found one adult male deceased at the scene. 

At 4:03 p.m., officers made contact with an adult male suspect by phone and a short time later detained him nearby. No other suspects are currently being sought. 

The Portland Police Homicide Unit is responding to the scene to investigate this case. During the investigation, Southeast Boise Street is closed between Southeast 114th Avenue and Southeast 116th Avenue.
