The Portland Police Bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served a warrant at a residence in North Portland and arrested the suspect in a March shooting.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to reports of a shooting at a business in the 5000 block of Northeast 105th Avenue. When they arrived, officers determined a man in dark clothing had fired a gun several times at the business before fleeing. Fortunately, nobody was struck by the gunfire.

PPB’s Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) launched an investigation into the shooting. Through that work, the team identified a suspect and a plan to take the individual into custody was developed.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, SERT served a warrant at a residence near North Gilbert Avenue and North Seneca Street and arrested Dashawn D. Clay, 41, of Portland. Clay was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) and lodged on the following charges: Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (two counts), Attempted Assault in the First Degree (two counts), Unlawful Use of a Weapon (three counts), and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. In addition, during a search of Clay’s residence, a firearm matching the shooting weapon was seized.
