A pedestrian has died from injuries sustained in a December 2024 crash.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers assigned to the Portland Police Bureau’s East Precinct responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of Southeast 174th Avenue and Southeast Grant Street. When they arrived, officers found an adult female who had been injured as a result of the crash. As the driver of the involved vehicle spoke with officers, the victim was transported to a hospital for care. The woman remained in the hospital until her release in February. In the weeks that followed, the woman’s condition worsened which resulted in continuous home care.

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, PPB’s Major Crash Team was notified that the victim, 69-year-old Melinda L. Reinke, had died. The Medical Examiner has determined that Reinke died from complications stemming from the original incident in December.

While there is no information to suggest a criminal element at the time of the December crash, the case will be assigned to an investigator in PPB’s Traffic Investigations Unit for review.

The total number of traffic-related fatalities in 2024 is now 67.
