"When people think of the Portland Police Bureau, they don't think of me. They think of the men and women who stop them on a traffic stop, come to their house at a time of critical need—the uniformed representation of which, last year, we handled over 200,000 calls for service. 200,000 contacts with Portlanders, largely dependent upon how we show up in uniform day to day, as men and women are doing right now for our benefit and for the city's benefit.

And they will be doing it this afternoon. They will be doing it tonight. They will be doing it tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day—regardless of weather, regardless of holidays, regardless of tragedies—as they continue to show up for the city of Portland." - Chief Bob Day
