On December 12, 2025, at 8:15 p.m., North Precinct Officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Northeast Sandy Blvd and Northeast Sandycrest Terrace.  The pedestrian, later identified as Roger Margolis, 80, sustained significant injuries during the crash. On Sunday, December 14, 2025, the Major Crash Team was notified by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's office that Margolis had died from his injuries. His family has been notified of his death.

The initial investigation determined that Margolis entered the roadway outside of a crosswalk. Visibility was limited due to darkness and light fog. The driver showed no signs of impairment, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The PPB Traffic Investigations Unit assumed the investigation, which is ongoing. The case number 25-340251.

This is the 43rd  traffic-related fatality in the City of Portland in 2025, and the 19th  involving a pedestrian.
