The victim of the homicide in Downtown Portland on October 5, 2025, has been identified as Alan S. Hammond, 64, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but they did provide a photo for public release.

The Medical Examiner determined Hammond died of homicide. 

No further information will be released at this time.

Homicide Investigation Underway in Downtown Portland

A homicide investigation is underway in Downtown Portland.

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a Southwest Portland hospital to assist with what originated as a medical call. When they arrived, officers determined the adult male victim had been injured during an assault about an hour earlier in the 300 block of Southwest 4th Avenue. At approximately 11:00 p.m., the victim was pronounced deceased despite lifesaving measures by hospital staff.

Homicide detectives have responded to the scene of the assault to conduct an investigation. Anyone with information about this case, who has not talked with police, is asked to contact Homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0479 and reference case number 25-274657.
