A man has been arrested following an incident in Old Town.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to reports of a male pointing a gun at passers-by in the area of Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street. A few minutes later, witnesses reported shots fired in the same area. The armed suspect proceeded to board a Trimet bus occupied by the operator and an unknown number of passengers. Early reports suggest that with help from the operator, the passengers were able to exit the bus. At this point, the armed individual ordered the operator to drive around the neighborhood before ultimately returning to the area of Northwest 3rd and Northwest Glisan. The bus operator was able to exit the bus at this time. While officers managed to recover the firearm, the suspect remained on the bus and refused to exit.
PPB's Quick Response Team assigned to the Special Emergency Reaction Team responded to the scene along with crisis negotiators. Over the course of several hours, PPB personnel attempted to get the suspect to exit the bus peacefully and safely. Eventually, a chemical agent was deployed into the bus and the suspect exited and was taken into custody without incident. The individual will be identified and charges released after he is booked into jail.
PPB would like to thank the Transit Police, Trimet, and people who live and work in the area as roads were closed for several hours while officers worked to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.
