The wanted suspect in a St. Johns Neighborhood home was arrested after more than 10 hours of hiding inside.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 8:06 a.m., Portland Police officers from North Precinct responded to a report of a wanted suspect seen outside a home in the 8300 block of North Hudson Street. When officers approached, the suspect ran into a neighbor's backyard, then back into the home. Officers surrounded the house and used a loudspeaker to tell him to come out. He did not respond. The suspect was known to be armed with firearms in the past and there was reason to believe he had access to firearms. Nearby schools and a community center were notified of the situation.
At 11:01 a.m., the Incident Commander activated SERT and CNT, bringing specialized equipment and expertise to the scene. CNT was actively negotiating with the suspect over text messages, and working with the suspect's friends and family to try to get him to surrender. Meanwhile, SERT officers utilized equipment such as a robot, drones, and cameras to try to locate the suspect.
When they exhausted other options, irritant gas was deployed into the home. The suspect did not come out, and officers narrowed down the location he could be to the attic space. Officers deployed gas in that space, and the man came down from the attic and surrendered, being arrested at 6:17 p.m. He will be identified after he is booked into jail.
No one was injured and no shots were fired. The streets are reopening and the Public Alerts notification is being canceled.
