On May 28, 1988, Xuong “Tom” Chau, a 28-year-old Vietnamese man, was working in the back room of Tom’s Hock Shop on the 500 block of SE 82nd when two Asian, likely Vietnamese, males entered the store at approximately 10:30 am. One of the males entered the back room and shot Xuong. Mr. Chau’s mother witnessed the shooting. Mr. Chau was transported to an area hospital and died soon after from his wounds.

Xuong “Tom” Chau was the owner of Tom’s Hock Shop. It was reported that stolen items and illicit drugs may have been sold out of Tom’s Hock Shop on occasion.

The two unidentified Asian males have been described as being in their early to mid twenties with small builds. These two males also stole a small amount of jewelry from the jewelry case within the store.
