Early in the afternoon on July 11, 1990, neighbors in the Wimbledon Square apartment complex on the 4800 block of SE 28th began complaining of a strong odor emitting from one of the apartments. The maintenance supervisor of the complex checked the complaint and found the victim, Harry Thalman, a 52-year-old white man deceased on the floor of his ransacked apartment. An autopsy revealed that Mr. Thalman had died as the result of multiple stab wounds and was killed sometime before discovery.
Harry Thalman was a retired jeweler was a gay man who frequently picked up homeless men and strangers to back to his apartment. Mr. Thalman was last seen on July 8 at approximately 7 pm. Many pieces of jewelry were missing from his apartment as well as his 1987 gray and silver Cadillac Deville sedan.
