On July 8, 1976, police responded to a field near the intersection of NE 33rd Avenue and Stafford Street at approximately 3:55 pm. Upon arrival, officers were contacted by witnesses stating they had discovered a deceased woman near the Columbia Slough. An investigation led police to confirm that the victim, a 14-year-old white woman, was Teresa Wine through dental records. An autopsy revealed that Teresa had bled to death and had died sometime between July 7and the 8.

Investigators believe that Teresa had been murdered somewhere else and her body had been dumped in the field.
