On August 19, 1998, at approximately 10:55 pm, Roger Cartwright staggered into the Grove Motel on NW 4th and Burnside Street. The night clerk, seeing the Mr. Cartwright was bleeding, called 911. Mr. Cartwright, a 47-year-old white man, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his wounds. An autopsy found that Mr. Cartwright had died as the result of a knife wound.
Roger Cartwright was a known transient who used and sold illicit drugs in the Old Town area. Mr. Cartwright was last seen arguing with an unidentified white man with dark hair on the corner of NW 4th and Burnside.
