Case #84-51150

On June 14, 1984, two individuals at the waterfront near the intersection of NW Davis and Front Avenue (now Naito Parkway) spotted someone floating in the river at approximately 3:30 pm. A nearby Portland Fire Station was contacted and both police and fire responded to the scene. They discovered that the victim, Richard Tauriainen, a 53-year-old white man, was deceased. An autopsy revealed that he had died as the result of traumatic injuries.

Richard Tauriainen was a veteran of the Korean War which had affected him enough to become transient and lose contact with his family. He has been described as balding with a full mustache and graying beard at the time of his death.
