Case #92-49312

On June 7, 1992, the caretaker of Martin Gatewood, a 67-year-old white man, went to check on him at his apartment at 1969 NE Johnson Street after getting no response from repeated calls to Mr. Gatewood. Martin was found when the assistant apartment manager opened his apartment for a welfare check where they found him severely injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later. An autopsy revealed that he had died as the result of blunt force trauma.

Martin Gatewood was an active gay man who reportedly met men at Couch Park near his home to bring back to his apartment. Due to health issues, Mr. Gatewood required the assistance of a wheelchair for most of his activities.

Martin was last seen at his apartment by the apartment manager at approximately 1:30 pm the same day.
