Case #91-57365

Li Yang Yuan, a 29-year-old woman from China, was here on a visitor’s visa with her husband living in Portland. On the evening of July 3, 1991, her husband came home to their studio apartment at the Jefferson Plaza at 1515 SW Jefferson Street to find her deceased. An autopsy concluded that Li Yang had died as the result of strangulation.

It was reported that Ms. Yuan had been romantically involved with others outside of her marriage. Li Yang was last seen leaving the apartment building that morning.

Li Yang was employed at The Mandarin Cove Chinese restaurant on SW Columbia Street as well as a Chinese herb shop on 82nd Avenue. In China, Li Yang taught English classes at a university in China.
