On March 12, 1976, just after 11:00, a cleaning lady at an apartment complex on the 200 block of NE Sacramento went into Jean Hooper’s apartment when she discovered Ms. Hooper deceased in her bed. Police were called to find that Ms. Hooper, a 71-year-old white woman, had been beaten and strangled.

Jean Hooper was reported to be an alcoholic and had lots of visitors coming in and out of her apartment. She was rumored to be bedridden at the time of her death, but she kept her doors unlocked.
