At approximately 6:30 in the evening on January 26, 1994, an unknown male armed with a handgun forcefully entered the victim’s residence at 6316 N. Williams Avenue after the victim’s wife opened the door to see who knocked. The victim, 47 year-old Dan Merton Thomas, a white male, confronted the unknown male. At this time, the intruder shot Mr. Thomas and fled the residence.
Witnesses report seeing a group of young African-American males walking by the residence minutes before hearing the gun shot. It was reported that Mr. Thomas had a small marijuana grow in his basement and had at times sold some of his crop. Witnesses described the shooter as a young African-American teenager. Police believe that the motive for this was robbery.
