View KPTV's story on this Cold Case.
At approximately 12:30 am in the morning of October 6, 1982, an individual walking east on Salmon St. near 3rd Avenue observed someone lying on the steps of 311 SW Salmon Street near the US National Bank and Armed Services Recruiting Offices. Seeing that the victim, 33 year-old Bruce Winfield Binford, a white male, had been shot in the head, paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital. Mr. Binford died two days later.
Mr. Binford was unemployed and was married with no children. It was reported that the victim liked to drink alcohol, but was not described as an alcoholic. Mr. Binford was last seen leaving Mr. D’s Bar around 10:00 pm after drinking at several downtown bars. Investigators believe that robbery may have been a motive for murder; his wallet and case were missing.
