On August 26, 1999, at approximately 10 p.m., police responded to shots fired at Pier Park located on N. James and N. Weyerhaeuser. They arrived to find 19-year-old Deontay Morris near the bathrooms in the park dead from gunshot wounds. Morris was in the company of at least two young women at the time, but they were not able to provide a suspect description. It is believed there are at least three suspects involved in this homicide.
The shooting of Deontay Morris is most likely gang-related.
