On December 16, 1977, at approximately 1030 a.m., Vernon Richard Anton was found beaten to death at his home, 4760 NE Prescott.  The victim was last seen alive on December 13, so the exact time of death is not known.  The crime scene indicated that forced entry was made into his residence.

Vernon Anton was a 57 year old, single white male, who  rented a room at the location.  He worked as a musician and bartender but at the time of his death he was unemployed.  He was known to frequent taverns in the area to include the Backstabber, 5 Spot, the Kort Haus, the Nightcap and the Glass House.  There was no indication from the interviews of Mr. Anton’s associates that he had any enemies or had received any prior threats.
