How to File
1. Check if the property is situated within Portland city limits
Mandatory renter relocation assistance applies only to properties within Portland city limits. Not all properties that list Portland as their mailing address are located within city limits. Portland Maps is the official city site used to determine eligible properties for this policy.
Go to Portland Maps and enter the property address. Properties outside City of Portland boundaries will have a yellow box stating they do not reside in Portland, with a link to the appropriate jurisdiction. See the guide for helpful screenshots.
Guide: How to verify eligible properties
2. Check how much relocation assistance is due to the tenant
Refer to this guide for the amount of relocation assistance due. The amount depends on the number of bedrooms in the unit. A three bedroom unit requires a higher amount than a studio or single-room occupancy (SRO).
Relocation assistance must be paid no later than 45 days prior to the rental termination date.
Resources are available to help landlords and tenants understand how and when mandatory renter relocation assistance applies. If you have questions or concerns, we recommend contacting the Rental Services office.
