Multnomah County Eviction Moratorium extended through July 2, 2021
On December 17, Multnomah County extended the current eviction moratorium in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Ordinance 1287 prohibits landlords from terminating rental agreements for nonpayment of rent and many terminations without cause under ORS 90.427 during the declared state of emergency.
Tenants that accrue nonpayment balances during the county’s emergency period (October 1, 2020 – July 2, 2021) will have six months after the emergency period to pay their housing providers.
While this ordinance is similar to the state’s House Bill 4213, it is a separate moratorium applying to tenants of Multnomah County and City of Portland. Rents deferred by House Bill 4213 (April 1 – September 30, 2020) will still be due on March 31, 2021 unless otherwise extended.
