Home Forward co-located 84 units of family-focused affordable housing in Cully with a new Workforce Development Center operated by Portland Community College.
August 2025

chaku kumtuks haws, chinuk wawa for "learning house," is Home Forward’s 84-unit new construction project located in the Cully neighborhood of Northeast Portland, which co-locates housing and a brand new Workforce Development Center operated by Portland Community College (PCC). The project was formerly knows as PCC Killingsworth.

The Native American Youth & Family Center (NAYA) operates a three-classroom Early Childhood Education Center on-site. Other building amenities at chaku kumtuks haws include a family room with lounge seating and TV, a community kitchen and dining table, community computers, a large laundry room with healthy food vending machines, and a bike storage room. The outdoor area includes a dining area and courtyard programmed with an experiential playscape. Commercial space serving community-articulated needs is located on the ground floor. The project also used Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) dollars to install heat pumps, energy-star appliances, above-code insulation and a photovoltaic solar array.

Through the collaboration with PCC, the site offers a 16,000 square foot plaza designed to support a weekly farmers market and other community-focused activities, and a casual amphitheater, with Wi-Fi access throughout. Residents have easy access to Fernhill Park the NE 42nd Avenue commercial district. Bus stops for frequent service lines 72 and 75 are located immediately outside the property.
