Related Northwest and Centro Cultural are partnering to develop 159 units of new construction affordable housing located in the Buckman neighborhood of Portland’s Central Eastside. Targeting seniors, multigenerational and BIPOC households who are disproportionally impacted by homelessness, this project offers a mix of unit types, including studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Fifty-three units will serve households earning 30% AMI or below, including 25 integrated permanent supportive housing units, and 42 family-sized units. The project will further support BIPOC communities through a new General Contractor joint venture, Sapling LLC, which seeks to elevate the capacity of a local, women and minority led general contracting firm.
Planned amenities at Alder 9 include a senior wellness center, arts space, outdoor courtyard, community garden and rooftop terrace. Centro Cultural will also operate an Employment and Economic Mobility Hub on the ground floor that will provide culturally and linguistically relevant services. The site is well supported by grocery stores, pharmacies, health clinics, parks and several recreational amenities including the Eastbank Esplanade, Buckman Field Park and two community gardens. Alder 9 is also within 0.1 miles of three bus stops and the B Loop Streetcar.
