Old Town Lanterns Lighting
This project is a symbol of Old Town's hope and resilience. The event celebrated the lighting of the new array of 80 Chinese and Japanese lanterns installed on NW Third Avenue between NW Couch and Davis Streets in Portland's Old Town neighborhood.
The Old Town Community Assocation, with financial support from the Public Environment Management Office and Venture Portland, led the project.
Project Illumination
PEMO, in collaboration with Downtown Portland Clean & Safe and Portland Parks & Recreation, worked to expand Project Illumination for Winter 2024. The annual event aims to infuse the heart of the city with festive cheer during the darker winter months. The lighting program extends to 850+ street trees, including special light installations.

What is it about PEMO's work that motivates you? What an opportunity! I am fortunate to be an active partner in solving community issues and making a better Portland.
What’s your favorite concert or live music venue in Portland? The Wonder Ballroom is a cozy snug gem of a place. Beautifully restored old time theater that wraps you in sound and rhythm.
What is one hidden gem in Portland that you think more people should know about?A summer afternoon at Kelley Point Park. If you can’t make it to the coast – head to the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia; it has cottonwoods, barge action, quiet sandy places, trails, and glorious views.

What's been your favorite project that PEMO has sponsored? My favorite PEMO project is the lighting on trees, which improve the city's appearance and allow residents to see in the dark. During problem-solving meetings, members of the public are constantly asking for more light installations. Moreover, we receive emails from the public daily when a streetlight is out, which shows how much they value the service we provide.
Do you have a favorite piece of public art or mural in Portland? My favorite is the Community Cycling Center Mural. It portrays Portland as a community, and the artwork is gorgeous.
