COVID-19 related information

Portland Parks & Recreation’s primary goal is to keep our community healthy and protect the public from the spread of COVID-19. We continue to follow guidance from public health authorities and elected officials. PP&R fall programming has been designed to meet public health guidance and to be flexible as conditions change.

How Play Swim Works

Open Swim
Swimming and diving areas are open to all ages. Non-Swimmers and children under 48 inches in height must have a parent or guardian, age 16 or older, in the water within arms reach at all times.

Family Swim
Recreational swim for parents and children. Enjoy the shallow water, play mats, water basketball and more. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied in water by parent or guardian. Non-swimmers and children under 48” in height must have a parent or guardian in the water within arms reach at all times. Single adults and tots two years and younger are welcome.

  • For your safety, please follow all posted pool rules and directions from the aquatic staff.
  • Children under 48” tall and non-swimmers (including children in lifejackets), must have a parent or guardian, age 16 or older, in the water within arms reach at all times.
  • Certain amenities may be unavailable for safety or staffing reasons. Thank you in advance for your continued patience as we resume indoor aquatic programming.
  • Admission is first-come, first-serve. Pool capacities will vary based on current staffing levels. For capacity questions, please reach out to your neighborhood pool directly.
  • All persons admitted onto the pool deck must pay admission, even if they are not getting in the water.
  • Lifejackets are available, but noodles, mats, inner tubes will not be provided. You are welcome to bring your own small (infant/toddler size) float rings, diving rings, noodles. No large floats, please.
  • Follow these instructions for purchasing a 20-visit pass online. View your neighborhood community center's page for more information on drop-in and pass fees.
  • We recognize that cost can be a barrier to participation. Thanks to the passing of the 2020 Parks Local Option Levy (Parks Levy), we are implementing a new “Pay What You Can” option. This allows City of Portland residents to access flexible payment options based on their family’s needs. Please note, the pay what you can payment option replaces our former scholarship program and does not require an application. As a City of Portland resident, you can use “Pay What You Can” discounts to align the cost to your family’s budget. Pass discounts are not available online. For financial assistance with swimming passes, please call your neighborhood pool or the customer service center.
