General Rule Etiquette
PP&R is committed to being a good neighbor in the community and is working towards minimizing the amount of potentially bothersome noise from pickleball to neighbors surrounding parks. We understand that there is a need for permitted pickleball spaces, so PP&R has sanctioned pickleball courts at Columbia, Pier, Sellwood, and Gabriel Park. Most tennis court areas in our parks are not far enough away from homes to properly attenuate the noise from pickleball play. PP&R is adding pickleball striping on the courts in our parks where we do have adequate distance (at least 300 to 600 feet away from homes). Conditions vary by site and PP&R seeks flexibility when considering pickleball court striping. Finally, please note that striping for pickleball at some existing park sites was completed before noise concerns were fully known, and before the distance metric (330 to 600 feet) was set. PP&R will continue to consider and address where possible, any noise concerns, while striving to meet expanding pickleball demand.
