How Lap Swim Works

  • Lap swim is intended for those who can swim a full length of the pool without stopping. Individuals who cannot meet this expectation are encouraged to attend a play swim at one of our three indoor pools.
  • Lanes are first come, first served. Please select a lane according to your swimming speed and the speed of others at that time; slow, medium, or fast. Lane designation signs will be posted at each site.
  • Lane availability may be reduced for other programming (water fitness, swimming lessons, or training classes). Please contact your local pool for more information regarding lane availability.
  • All lanes circle counterclockwise.
  • The center line is always on your left.,
  • Be aware of your speed!  If you are being passed regularly, move to a slower lane.  If you are passing others regularly, move to a faster lane.
  • Be aware of other swimmers.  If you think you’re going to be passed, STOP at the end of the pool and let the faster swimmer go ahead.
  • Avoid swimming side by side.
  • If you are sharing a lane with another patron, please communicate if you will be splitting the lane or circle swimming. When three or more swimmers are in a lane, all swimmers must circle swim. Circle swimming is when swimmers stay to the right side of the lane, just like driving a car. Follow the lane markers on the bottom of the pool and always keep your position to the right.
  • Communicate with each other.  If the speed of swimmers in your lane changes, someone may need to move.
  • Kickboards, pull buoys, and flippers are available at indoor pools.  Please, be aware of your speed.  If needed, STOP at the end and let other swimmers pass.
  • For water walking and individual fitness, please be mindful of fellow swimmers in your lane and share the space equally.
  • All lap pools are 25 yards in length.
  • Please ask staff on duty in the office if you have any questions.

How Water Fitness Works

  • Classes are first-come, first-serve, and capacities may be limited at select facilities.
  • Fitness equipment is provided, patrons are welcome to bring their own. Specially designed water shoes are welcome if they are only worn in the pool area and not while navigating to and from the facility.
  • Classes are led by certified fitness instructors. For your health and safety, we encourage all participants to follow the cues and safety considerations provided by instructors.
  • Please keep side conversations to a minimum so others can effectively hear cues provided by the instructor. We encourage socializing before and after class.
  • Those wishing to use the pool for personal water fitness are welcome to do so provided their actions do not impact the flow of the group fitness class.

Water Fitness Class Descriptions
