Portland Parks & Recreation Pools End Summer Season

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)'s popular outdoor pools will remain open through at least Sunday, August 23, 2026. PP&R remains committed to maximizing summer access to pools as much as capacity allows. As such, Peninsula Outdoor Pool will remain open through Labor Day (Monday, September 7), extending swim opportunities for individuals and families into late summer.

Take it indoors!

PP&R's four indoor year-round pools remain open, including the recently renovated Mt. Scott Community Center and Pool. The bureau is also developing a new, full-service North Portland Aquatic Center.

Annual scheduled pool maintenance and temporary indoor pool closures

To keep the pools at their best, we close the facilities every year for regular maintenance and upkeep. Pools are drained, light repairs completed, as well as deep cleaning to pool areas and locker rooms. We also work to time larger repair and replacement projects during these annual maintenance schedules to minimize closure time for the public. (for example, the boiler replacement, roofing projects, etc.)

The 2026 annual maintenance schedule for indoor pools:

• 8/15 until 8/30 - Matt Dishman Community Center and Indoor Pool - Closed
• 9/5 until 9/18* - Southwest Community Center and Indoor Pool - Closed
• 9/28 until 10/10 - Mt. Scott Community Center and Indoor Pool - Closed
• 10/12 until 11/16 - East Portland Indoor Pool - Closed - they are getting their boiler replaced - this is great news!
• 10/19 until 10/31 - East Portland Community Center

In addition to EPCC's regular maintenance, the center will receive a new boiler and will need to close for October. Registered swim lessons which had been scheduled for October will take place in September.

*The temporary maintenance closure for the SWCC pool may need to be extended. We will update the community with the latest information as it becomes clear. 

2026 attendance for outdoor pools is estimated at about 250,000 visits over the June-August season. Indoor pools received about 150,00 visits during the summer months.

More swim lessons now, more coming

Portland Parks & Recreation are thrilled to offer more swim lessons this year. However, demand still outpaces available space, even with nearly 14,000 lessons this summer (nearly 8,000 more swim lessons offered than in 2022). As more staff are hired and trained, the bureau will add more spots for people on the waitlists throughout the summer. Schedules for summer are posted online on the PP&R Aquatics website.

Access Discount Program

The Parks Levy has allowed PP&R to reduce cost as a barrier for all recreation programming, including swimming. City of Portland residents can register for the Access Discount Program to receive an ongoing discount of up to 90%. The pass is valid for 12 months from the date of enrollment. No proof of income is required.

You can use the Access Discount Program to reduce the price of the following:

• Admission to recreation centers and pools
• Classes, camps, swim lessons, and other registered activities
• Preschool and after-school programs
• Personal training

Stay cool with park splash pads and fountains

PP&R operates FREE public splash pads and fountains so you and your family can stay cool outdoors across the city. Portland Parks & Recreation has splash pads on from late June through Labor Day, at no cost, to help Portlanders stay cool as our summers get hotter.
