Spring is one of the best times to get outside in Portland. Flowers are blooming, trees are budding, and Portland’s public gardens are bursting with color. Portland Parks & Recreation invites you to explore these beautiful spaces, spend time in nature, and even volunteer to help keep them thriving. 

Peninsula Park Rose Garden

A Spring Stroll Through Portland’s Public Gardens 

From neighborhood rose gardens to quiet forest trails, Portland’s public green spaces burst into color each spring. These gardens are more than just pretty places; they’re community, education, and environmental stewardship hubs. Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, a photography outing, or a family adventure, there’s a blooming corner of the city just waiting to be discovered. 

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden

One of spring's most stunning places to visit is the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Southeast Portland. This peaceful nine-acre garden features over 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas, and other flowers. You’ll find winding paths, waterfalls, and plenty of birds and wildlife to enjoy. The garden is full of color and life from late March through June. 

Location: 5801 SE 28th Ave 
Hours: 10am to 6pm daily 
Admission: $8.95, Students (ages 6-21): $5.95 
Children five and younger – free (with an adult), Individuals and families who qualify may receive pay-what-you-wish admission through the garden’s Community Access program.

Specialty Gardens 

  • Portland Memory Garden – A serene, thoughtfully designed space in Washington Park created to support visitors with memory loss and their caregivers.

Love the gardens? PP&R offers a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Rose Garden tending is fast approaching! Whether it’s weeding, planting, guiding visitors, or helping at events, there’s a way for everyone to dig in.
