(Portland, OR) –

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) will be temporarily closing a portion of the Mt. Tabor Dog Off-Leash Area to address erosion issues at the site. This project is expected to begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, and to last approximately three weeks. PP&R crews hope to keep the eastern portion of the popular dog off-leash area open to the public during construction.

Work will address ongoing erosion and instability issues in the area and aims to improve conditions prior to the rainy season.

PP&R crews will collaborate to remove debris which has slid down the hillside, install erosion control measures, to revegetate the center portion of the off-leash area located near the SE 68th Street entrance, and to install a fence. This project will help protect and preserve the dog off-leash area, improve stormwater conditions, and maintain the health and stability of the ecosystem. Visitors to the dog park, four-legged and otherwise, will have enhanced access and enjoy improved conditions.

Please help City staff by following directions on all posted closure notices, keeping pets under your control, and staying clear of construction areas for everyone’s safety.
