ORIGINAL POST FROM MARCH 1
Due to persistent wet conditions, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) has temporarily closed all grass sports and athletic fields across the city until further notice. The Bureau is hopeful it won’t be more than a few weeks until fields can safely reopen. While all-weather synthetic fields remain open, playing grass fields in the very wet conditions our area is experiencing can damage them to the point where continued play is unsafe.
PP&R fields include those used for soccer, rugby, kickball, lacrosse, and ultimate frisbee. Portland Parks & Recreation will work with spring sports leagues which are starting their seasons to place as many games as possible on synthetic fields, though availability is limited. Games will take precedence over practice sessions during a field closure.
Portland Parks & Recreation will monitor the fields over the next few days and weeks to evaluate potential reopening dates.
PP&R will post updates online at www.Portland.Gov/Parks/weather
