(Portland, OR) –
Southwest Community Center and Pool, as well as the Portland Tennis Center, will reopen to the public on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) staff have completed repairs (related to storm damage) at the popular recreation and sports centers. PP&R has completed inspections at all of its facilities (community and arts centers, maintenance facilities, restrooms, etc.) to ensure safety and evaluating needed repairs from extensive severe weather damage citywide.
The Bureau will reassess and provide an update on the two public centers still closed – East Portland Community Center and Pool and the Multnomah Arts Center – on Wednesday.
Identified systemwide storm-related issues include:
-indoor flooding
-frozen boilers
-ceiling leaks in classroom areas and activity spaces
-HVAC failures
-electrical system failures.
The Portland Tennis Center will reopen Wednesday, January 24, 2024, after repairs for issues that caused the leaks and water intrusion seen in this photo.
The Portland Tennis Center had leaks and structural tears addressed. Southwest Community Center experienced an HVAC system outage due to storm damage, as well as a lack of running water, significant leaks, other issues. Our thanks and admiration to our tradespeople, maintenance staff, and recreation professionals who’ve been helping, evaluating, and finding solutions for us all.
