WALK with Refugees and Immigrants is Sunday, August 19, 2018, at the new Gateway Discovery Park

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)’s Parks for New Portlanders program presents the WALK with Refugees and Immigrants event, starting at Gateway Discovery Park (Portland’s newest!) on Sunday, August 19, 2018.

Held in partnership with Sunday Parkways and 72 community organizations, the WALK’s aim is to celebrate Portland’s compassionate, generous and welcoming spirit towards refugees & immigrants and, their presence. 

The WALK is held in tandem with Portland’s popular Sunday Parkways series, which will feature Gateway Discovery Park and other attractions with an outer northeast Portland route on this date as well.

WHAT: WALK with Refugees and Immigrants

WHEN: Sunday, August 19, 2018, 11am

WHERE: Starting point: The new Gateway Discovery Park, 10520 NE Halsey St., ending at PP&R’s Knott Park, NE 117th Ave. and Knott St., (about a mile in length).

Celebration highlights include:

  • Recognizing refugee and immigrant champions.
  • Local musicians originally from around the world will play their traditional music and give performance during the walk.
  • Soccer games and school supply giveaways while supplies last 
  • Free lunch for those 18 and under, while supplies last. 

Sunday Parkways hits Outer Northeast 

On Sunday, August 19, 2018, Sunday Parkways features a route that begins after Gateway Green and takes bicyclists and walkers to Knott Park, East Holladay Park, and the newly opened Gateway Discovery Park. These parks will be overflowing with music, food, and fun finds.
