Free bucket truck rides and family fun with Urban Forestry.
Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)’s Urban Forestry division invites all to the Portland Regional Tree Climbing Competition, an educational event and skills challenge this Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Irving Park. Participants, including some Portland Urban Forestry staff, put their skills to the test, challenging themselves 70 feet off the ground in Irving Park’s trees. PP&R is a proud partner in the competition, which is an event presented by the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture.
The event is free and open to all spectators. Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry will host FREE bucket truck rides for a bird's eye view of the city (similar to the attached photos taken at a recent PP&R Arbor Day celebration). Special thanks to Urban Forestry Operations, led by PP&R’s Larry Maginnis, for facilitating the bucket truck rides.

The mission of PP&R’s Urban Forestry division is to manage and care for Portland's forest infrastructure - for current and future generations. Portland’s urban forest consists of approximately 220,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and innumerable trees on private property. Urban Forestry staff are involved in the careful management and regulation of trees, in many ways. The division creates and implements the City's Urban Forest Management Plan, fosters tree awareness and cultivates community stewardship, develops tree policies and programs, monitors and assesses Portland’s urban forest, issues permits for planting, pruning, and takes care of needed tree removals. Urban Forestry staff respond to tree emergencies 24/7, 365 days a year, via 503-823-TREE or trees@portlandoregon.gov.
