Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) and PP&R’s Citywide Teen Services Team are proud to be partnering with the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) for the 2016 NEDA Walk.

What: Portland’s National Eating Disorders Walk
Where: Peninsula Park, 700 N Rosa Parks Way
When: Saturday, September 17, 2016
Why: Help PP&R and NEDA support those on the path to recovery!
On social media: #WHYINEDAWALK

The Portland NEDA walk aims to raise both awareness and funds around helping people impacted by eating disorders. National data show that many the people who struggle with the potentially life-threatening conditions are young people.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 95% of people afflicted by eating disorders are between the ages of 12 and 25.

“As a retired Registered Nurse, health remains one of my top priorities,” says Portland Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz. “Eating disorders impact people from all walks of life, as well as their loved ones. I hope for a strong showing by neighbors to help PP&R and NEDA support those on the path to recovery.”

“Our mission is ‘Healthy Parks, Healthy Portland’”, notes PP&R Director Mike Abbaté. “We believe that Portland Parks & Recreation is in a unique position to connect youth with opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem. We know how very important community, recreation and education are to the growth and health of young people. We are proud to help NEDA build communities of compassionate advocates.”
