(Portland,OR) –

Explore summer’s fresh flavors with Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)’s kid-centric tastings of produce, cooking demonstrations, and gardening activities.

Every Thursday from July 11 to August 22, staff from PP&R’s Let’s Grow programs will visit two summer playground program locations with seasonal produce and recipes. The recipes cooked will be featured in Thursday Table, an easy menu that’s been tasted (and liked!) by kids in PP&R’s Let’s Grow programs. Thursday Table menus will appear on www.letsgrowpdx.org.

The local eating adventure kicks off this week at PP&R’s Charles Jordan Community Center and at Alberta Park. The featured ingredient is peppers, and kids will be heating up their taste buds with a pepper tasting…and then cooling off with Peppers Caprese.

Also coming up in late July is Kids Cook! PP&R’s annual celebration of seasonal produce and menus. This year, we’ve paired Kids Cook! with a showing of Ratatouille, part of the popular Summer Free for All’s Movies in the Park series.

About Let’s Grow

Let's Grow programs and classes from Portland Parks & Recreation explore ways to be well and live healthy through gardening, cooking, fitness and more. Programs include Grow Afterschool at Charles Jordan Community Center, Hillside Community Center, St. Johns Community Center and Sellwood Community Center, and Sprout Academy at Southwest Community Center.

Let’s Grow is made possible in part by a grant from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service Child Care Wellness grant. The grant seeks to increase produce consumption, encourage healthy beverage consumption, and increase physical activity in afterschool programs serving meals in the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
