Terwilliger Parkway Stewardship Event

Join Portland Parks & Recreation and Friends of Terwilliger to remove invasive ivy and blackberry along the historic Terwilliger Parkway!

Project details

Join Portland Parks & Recreation and Friends of Terwilliger to remove noxious weeds. By removing invasive species and planting a diversity of native plants, we help enhance wildlife habitat, encourage the regeneration of native plant species, and prevent erosion and water runoff. 

Please bring your own water bottle, wear closed toe shoes, and dress for the weather. Instructions, tools, and gloves will be provided. For the safety of staff and other volunteers, please stay home if you are feeling sick.

Meeting location will be emailed to registered volunteers before the event.

Children are welcome

Any child under 14 years of age needs to be accompanied by an attentive adult.

Accessibility

This event will require bending over and walking off-trail on uneven surfaces. A portable restroom will be available at this site (not ADA compliant).


Helpful information for participants

  • We will provide all the tools, gloves and training you will need for this volunteer work.
  • In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness.
  • While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact Monica.Walker@portlandoregon.gov before arriving with a large group. This will ensure there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week or on weekends. Learn more on our Volunteer Stewardship for Groups page.

Court-ordered community service

If you are looking for community service to fulfill court requirements, please call (503) 823-5121. You must be registered with our program before undertaking any community service.

Other Community Service Hours

To verify participation for school or other service hour requirements, please bring your own method of tracking and check in with the Stewardship Coordinator or event leader during the event to get a signature or other verification. Please follow registration guidelines for the event you would like to participate in for service.
