Annual Johnson Creek Cleanup

Label: Volunteer event
This is your chance to get involved with the Johnson Creek Watershed Council and Portland Parks & Recreation to GET IN the creek and GET OUT all the trash that has accumulated over the past year.
8:45 am 1:00 pm

Project details: The Johnson Creek Clean-Up returns August 16th, 2025! Since 2007, volunteers have jumped into the Johnson Creek and pulled out over 70 tons of trash from the water. Yes that’s right, over 70 tons! Don’t miss this unique opportunity to get in the creek and remove litter from where it matters the most.

There will be multiple sites that you can sign up at, with three sites reserved for volunteers who would like to keep their feet on the ground. Please arrive at your site at 8:45 am to meet your team and Creek Captain and learn how to be safe in the water. Groups will spend ~3 hours in the creek picking up trash, then travel to Johnson Creek Park to have lunch at 12 pm.

Getting Ready for the Event

Thank you for helping to keep Portland parks healthy and beautiful! Here are a few tips to get you ready for your stewardship event.

  • Children are welcome. Any child under 14 years of age needs to be accompanied by an attentive adult.
  • Accessibility. This event will require bending over, walking on uneven surfaces, and getting into the creek.
  • Registration is required for all stewardship events.
  • All tools, gloves and training to do the task is provided.
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness.
  • In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!
  • While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work.
