Spring is here and the plants are blooming. Join Johnson Creek Watershed Council and Portland Parks & Recreation at Powell Butte for a presentation by Susan Hawes on Pacific Northwest native plants – plant identification, where you can find them, and growing conditions. Afterwards, there will be a short 1.5 mile hike to the top of the butte. This event has limited spots with priority given to members of the Deaf Community and their family. Registration is required.
- How to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine, so dress for weather: rain coat, warm layers, sun hat, and sunscreen as necessary. Wear sturdy shoes for walking. Bring a filled water bottle and a snack – optional.
- Parking and Public Transit: Parking is available near the visitor center. Bus #9 and #74 drops riders off at SE Powell & SE 162nd Ave, a 15 minute walk to the meeting point. Please note that service is irregular on weekends.
- Children are welcome. Children are welcome at this event however will need to be accompanied by an attentive adult.
- Accessibility: This event will require standing for long period of times, walking on a paved path, walking over uneven ground, and going up or down steep slopes. Restrooms are available for use at the Visitor Center.
- We will provide: An interpreter, visual guides, presentation, and guided hike. Please contact info@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare if needed.
- Health and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness.
